FOC ENCÈS
El proyecto Foc Encès continúa con la temática de la tensión contenida en un cuerpo, la presión y el instinto humano, hilo conductor en el trabajo de Basagoiti.
Foc Encès habla de como la ira se transforma, mediante un proceso interior, evitando que salga sin filtrar hacia fuera. El extintor es símbolo de esta misma transformación, conteniendo un agente que extingue estos instintos básicos del humano.
En el trabajo de Basagoiti hay una fascinación para lo que son los impulsos sin control del ser humano y los mecanismos (tanto internos como externos) que lo canalicen. En anteriores proyectos han protagonizado otros estímulos como el deseo, la perdida y la presión. El fuego se percibe como una fuerza devastadora, tal como lo puede ser la ira. La ira es lo que brota dentro del ser humano y conducido por buen camino, puede ser el motor de cambio. El extintor puede filtrar y aplacar la rabia que sale en bruto, amortiguando su fuerza destructiva.
El extintor en sí tiene una sola función y ahora se construye un nuevo objeto, desconcertando al espectador en un primer instante. Utilizando un lenguaje estético tirando al kitsch, con alto brillo y espejismo, contribuye a provocar en el espectador una cierta incomodidad, la misma que muchas veces sentimos frente a los instintos humanos más salvajes. La superficie cromada emite el reflejo de la persona que lo observa, vinculando el observador con la obra.
ON FIRE continues with the theme of the tension contained in a body, pressure and human instinct, a common thread in Basagoiti's work.
Foc Ences talks about how anger is transformed, through an internal process, preventing it from coming out without filtering out. The fire extinguisher is a symbol of this same transformation, containing an agent that extinguishes these basic human instincts.
In Basagoiti's work there is a fascination for the uncontrolled impulses of the human being and the mechanisms (both internal and external) that channel them. In previous projects they have featured other stimuli such as desire, loss and pressure. Fire is perceived as a devastating force, just as rage can be. Anger is what springs up within the human being and, led on the right path, it can be the engine of change. The extinguisher can filter and calm the rage that comes out raw, cushioning its destructive force.
The fire extinguisher itself has only one function and now a new object is constructed, disconcerting the viewer at first. Using an aesthetic language that tends towards kitsch, with high gloss and mirage, contributes to causing a certain discomfort in the viewer, the same one that we often feel when faced with the most savage human instincts. The chrome surface emits the reflection of the person observing it, linking the observer with the work.
